Grand Bagurumba Dance Performance
The cultural programme featured a spectacular and synchronized performance of the traditional Bagurumba dance by more than 10,000 artists belonging to the Bodo community. Performers represented 81 Legislative Assembly constituencies from across 23 districts of Assam. 1
Bagurumba is a folk dance of the Bodo people that draws inspiration from nature and symbolises peace, joy, harmony, and a deep connection with the natural world. The graceful movements of the dance imitate elements such as butterflies, birds, leaves, and flowers. Traditionally, the dance is performed by young women, with men accompanying as musicians using traditional instruments. 2
Significance of the Event
The programme was described as a historic cultural event celebrating the heritage of one of Assam’s major indigenous communities. The word “Dwhou” in the event’s title refers to “wave” in the Bodo language, emphasising unity and cultural solidarity in the performance. 3
The event also drew attention from local government officials and cultural organisations, who helped organise rehearsals, coordinated training sessions, and prepared performers from all participating districts. It was seen as an important platform to elevate the traditional art form and present it on a grand stage. 4

During his two-day visit to Assam, PM Modi was also scheduled to perform the Bhoomi Pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project—a major infrastructure initiative—and flag off new Amrit Bharat Express trains at Kaliabor in Nagaon district the following day. 5
